How it works

A steel screw, turned into undisturbed soil.

The screw is a hot-dip galvanized shaft with a conical thread that displaces soil outward as it turns, compacting it rather than removing it. Capacity comes from the screw's diameter and the soil it sits in; length is chosen for the site. Nothing is excavated, nothing is formed, and nothing has to cure, so the footing takes its load as soon as it is set.

Step one

Sizing

Screw diameter, length and count come from the loads and the soil. We work these out with you, and per-job foundation design is available through an engineering house licensed in Georgia when a reviewer wants a stamp.

Step two

Driving

A low-speed, high-torque drive head turns each screw to its specified embedment. The handheld equipment reaches sites a mixer cannot, and the embedment is logged screw by screw.

Step three

Connecting

An insertable flange or bracket sets the structure on the screw at the height you need. Because there is no cure, the next trade starts the same day.

Digging a footing means altering soil inside a tree's critical root zone, which is what a city's tree ordinance exists to restrict. A driven screw does not require that excavation, so it is often the shorter path back to a permitted project. The rule is different in every city, and the formula, the encroachment cap and the permit trigger all vary.

Can you build a deck without concrete footings in Georgia?

Yes. A galvanized ground screw is a code-listed footing carrying the same design loads as a poured pier. Every screw is driven to a rated depth in undisturbed soil, and because nothing has to cure, the deck can be framed the same day the footings go in.

My permit was flagged over a tree's root zone. Now what?

This is the situation we see most. A dug footing removes soil from inside the critical root zone; a driven screw displaces it instead, without trenching or auguring through the root plate.
